Artist's Comments: Deep within the quiet, mountainside forests of upper Languedoc, near the village of Vissec.. the ancient 'Mills of the Mad' evoke an almost eerie, fairy-like feeling as if haunted by goblins. Now a beloved, beauty spot sought by the curious traveller prepared to hike in from Vissec, the mills were financed and founded in the 12th century by the local lords and built by the monks of the nearby abbey. Built to capture the tremendous force of River Vis catapulting from the mountainside after a subterranean journey of 30 kilometer the mills were near destroyed by flood and other ravages until they were almost full restored in year 2000. I tried to capture this magical quality in paint and hope that some elements resonate with you.
